Recovery from online backups/archived logs on another system 2004-04-14 - By DENNIS WILLIAMS
Matthew
Been there, done that. I 've run into the phenomenon where recovery asks
for an SCN and suggests a log that contains that SCN. Oracle then applies
all the changes in that log, which prompts it to need just one more SCN, and
suggests a log. It never ends. If you recover to an SCN that is in the next
log, then recovery is satisfied. Now I should clarify that this is when you
are using RESETLOGS. I think you 've had better suggestions by switching
logs, or bringing over the current logs.

This makes sense except for the fact that I 've applied logs for about 4
hours worth of data AFTER the online backups. The dates on the last
system change numbers applied are substantially after the end of the
online backup completion.

Try going back to the original, do a couple of log switches, then grab
the
archived logs and copy them over. The online redo files on the original
are
at whatever system change number the copied database is looking for.
